CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

 

School on International Humanitarian Law (IHL)

 13- 17 December 2021 (online)

 

 

 

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Delegation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Faculty of Law of the University of Sarajevo are pleased to invite you to participate in the School on International Humanitarian Law for law and political sciences students.

 

The School will be held online from 13 to 17 December 2021, in the late afternoon hours

 

As in previous years, the School will feature prominent experts of IHL from Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad, who will offer more than one approach on different legal issues related to the IHL, elaborating the importance and relevance of IHL and its interaction with other branches of international law.

 

The program covers contemporary challenges in IHL application, through the prism of core IHL topics. It will deal among others with the use of force in international law, new technologies and weapons, the interplay between international humanitarina law- international human rights law-international criminal law and refugee law, notion of direct participation in hostilities, armed-non state actors and IHL.

 

The event provides a unique opportunity for learning IHL and networking with fellow students and practitioners from the region and Europe.

 

Participants should have advanced level or postgraduate study in law or international relations, good knowledge of public international law, and proficiency in English.

 

Participation of maximum 4 students per faculty has been planned.

 

Deadline for confirmation of the participation is 1 December 2021.

 

Working languages of the IHL School are Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian and English (simultaneous translation will not be provided).

 

As the program follows a logical structure, participants are expected to be present throughout the School. The participants who attend all sessions will receive official certificate of attendance upon successful completion of the School.
